Riding Through the Storm

Rider Statue

The equestrian statue of this 12th Century warrior, in front of the European Union’s flag, illustrates the changes that Bulgaria faced through the ages.

After a First Bulgarian Empire under Byzantine influence, a Second Bulgarian Empire under Ottoman influence, the creation of a nation state that fell under Soviet influence after the Second World War, Bulgaria joined the European Community after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Proud of its rich past, Bulgaria continues to move forward.

  1. A lot of pictures were made to this warrior that day 🙂 Great picture- the warrior, the EU flag and the glouds! Thanks for the good words below the picture too 🙂

    • It was indeed quite a challenge to find the right exposure for this photo due to the high dynamic range of the scene.
The ratio between the lightest and darkest regions of this photo is very high, and it often leads to either blown out highlights or blocked up shadows.
